Since these are concepts for a bigger piece, part of plan B actually, I went to the trouble of having it registered with my free copyright.
It's final quality will be a bit like this maverchare.deviantart.com/art/… or better, but I can't quite decide which one to go with. In the future I may do several of them, but for now I should just focus on one. I'm also wondering if I should go with a very dark or intense colour scheme, of have a very serene one that is at odds with the subject.

As for the concept, it came from thinking of Munchs scream.
From there I went more internal, and went for the waffle about two faces, one we have inside ourselves and the one we show. Which is nonsense, because who'd have just two? I think most people would find themselves in double digits. I think most people though is familiar with having to suppress rage, frustration or just the simple need to scream.

Technique ImpactFirstly, I must say I quite like the concept - this duality of the intended and the exhibited; the schism between what we feel and what we express. But perhaps it's the other way around? Oftentimes, I feel like screaming out of frustration, or anger, or just simply the ennui of it all yet I retain a neutral or slightly poignant expression so as to conform with social expectations. That's how I'm viewing the image; the internal man is what is shown to the world while it's the external skin which reflects a more primal reaction to what is felt inside.
Nevertheless, of the four you're showing here, I was initially drawn to the leftmost and rightmost ones (1&4), primarily due to the expressions on the internal figures. But my reservation is with how the external man does not seem to gel well with the internal figure. 4 seems less of a scream and more of a thin skin being forced open while 1 seems more of a forced yawn. That said, with a bit of touching up, primarily around the eye and brow region, I'd say 1 would end up being a very good final design. Though, I really like the sadness painted on the internal man in 4.
I quite like the expression on 2 as well (second from the left), though, as someone else has commented, it looks more like an article of clothing (a very cool and disturbing one though <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title=" (Big Grin)"/>). No.3 is the one that I find myself being drawn to the more I look at your selection though. It does give off the air of someone shedding an exterior facade, an impression further accentuated by the lack of visible eyes on the external man, but the more I look at it, the more I'm liking it.
Technically speaking, I think everything is pretty good; you're succesfully evoking very real emotions from your drawings and that is to be applauded. In terms of shading I find myself liking no.1, though I think that it could be stand to be lightened up by a bit.
All in all, I think it's a very good concept and I look forward to seeing your final design <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt="
