Description

"Islander" for Speedy du Jour at :iconda-speedpaint:
80 minutes

Tried to get more inventive with angel, though i could have pushed the boat and the people much more. I also didn't spend as much time as I would have wished on their clothes, particularly patterns.

Ainu are the indigenous people of Japan, living mainly on Hokkaido and the other islands that peters out further north of that. Not much of it survives though, no proper Ainu villages beyond what's been reconstructed for tourism, the language is considered endangered with about 100 speaker or as few as 15 left. How many Ainu there are left is also a tricky one, because of racism there are many that even to this day lie about their ethnicity.
